Event Overview
The Stars & Spikes: Totally Rad 5K is an annual running event held in Lombard, Illinois. Now in its ninth year, the event is hosted by Madison Elementary and Hammerschmidt Elementary. The race takes place at 150 W Madison St. and features a themed atmosphere. For the current edition, the event adopts a 1980s theme, with official race apparel focused on the neon colors associated with that decade. Participants are encouraged to wear era-specific attire such as headbands, tracksuits, and leg warmers.
The event offers two distinct running distances:
- 5k (3.1 miles)
- 1 Mile (1.6 km)
Both the 5k and the 1 Mile participants receive a race shirt as part of their registration, provided they register by the specified deadline in April. Race packets for those not affiliated with the local schools are available for pickup on the morning of the event starting at 7:30 AM. For participants associated with the schools, swag is delivered to the student indicated during the registration process.
