Purpose and background
The event honors a young person who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 12 and who died in January 2002 at age 14. In tribute, the family created an organization that now operates the event. The organization awards college scholarships to graduating seniors and funds childhood brain cancer research by granting funds to hospitals.
