St Stephen School Welcome Back 5K
The St Stephen School Welcome Back 5K is an annual community event held at Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island. Now in its fourth year, the race follows the West River path, offering participants waterfront views. The event is a fundraiser for the St. Stephen School Home School Association, with all proceeds supporting the school budget.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 km Run or Walk
- 400 m Kids Dash (Ages 10 and under)
The 5 km course is USATF certified (Certificate No. NY23028JJ). Registration is open to people of all ages, with a specific focus on the Kids Dash for younger athletes. The first 100 registrants across both events receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Top performers in the 5 km are recognized with awards for the first overall male and female, as well as the top three finishers in various age categories ranging from 10 and under to 80 and over. A team competition is also available for all-male, all-female, and co-ed groups, where the top four times are used to determine the winners. All participants in the Kids Dash receive finisher medals.
A post-race gathering is held at Beaver Island State Park, Lot #4. This area hosts a beer tent for participants aged 21 and older, along with family-oriented activities such as yard games, face painting, and balloon creations. Post-race food and beverages are provided for participants. The event takes place rain or shine, and there is no park entry fee for those attending.
