Sri Chinmoy Tan Team Relays
The event combines a team relay and individual races on the Tan Track, staged at the Pillars of Wisdom near Melbourne Botanic Gardens. It uses a looped course where laps are counted by a timing chip attached to the baton.
Teams consist of four members and may be all male, all female or mixed with at least one male and one female. Teams compete in either Open or Over 50 categories, with the Team Relay covering 11 laps for a total of 42.1 km. Team members carry a baton and must exchange it each lap in the transition zone at the Pillars of Wisdom; each runner must complete a minimum of two laps.
Individual race options are offered alongside the relay:
- Marathon 11 laps plus 100 metres
- 11.49 km 3 laps
- 3.83 km 1 lap
Drink stations supplying water and electrolyte are placed every 2 km. Chip timing is provided by Tomato Timing. Race numbers and team batons are collected on race morning at the venue. Team entries close the Saturday before the event. Minimum age rules apply for each event. Awards include team trophies for top teams in multiple categories, a marathon finisher's medal and age-category medals for the 1-lap and 3-lap races. Metered parking is available nearby in Alexandra Avenue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
