Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Ultramarathon
The Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Ultramarathon takes place on 1 November at Hagley Park North in Christchurch. The event offers multiple distances on a certified 2.5 km asphalt loop that is described as flat and suitable for repeated laps. Lap counters are used for all athletes and a scoreboard is updated with each lap after the first hour of racing.
Aid stations are located in the race village and provide food, snacks, water, and a PURE electrolyte drink. Supporter equipment such as tents and tables may be set up beside the course in the race village area. Rules state that pacing by vehicles, cyclists, or non entered runners is not permitted, while support crew may travel alongside briefly to hand over nutrition but must not complete a full lap.
The 100 km event is an IAU Bronze Label event and incorporates the Athletics New Zealand National 100 km Championships. To be eligible for Athletics New Zealand championship titles, athletes must be registered through an affiliated athletics club or use the one day ANZ membership option. Entry to the championship event incurs an additional fee charged by Athletics New Zealand.
Prizegiving and a post race vegetarian dinner are held at The Lotus Heart Restaurant in Christchurch. Results and photos are posted online after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
