Event Overview
The Sportspectrum Firecracker 5k Race for Research is a July 4th event in Shreveport, Louisiana. It marks its 42nd anniversary in 2026. The event includes a 5k run/walk and a Kids Fun Run.
Course and Location
The 5k starts and finishes in the Mall St. Vincent parking lot, behind Sears. The route goes through the historic South Highland Subdivision, described as one of Shreveport's oldest neighborhoods. Strollers and baby joggers are permitted but must maintain a walking pace. In-line skates and roller skates are not allowed.

- 5k (3.1 miles)
- Kids Fun Run (1/2 mile), open to children aged 1 to 10. All kids in the fun run receive a finisher's medal.
The race offers prize money. Overall male and female winners each receive $500, with second-place finishers receiving $250 each. An additional $500 is awarded for beating the course record. The first 101 male and first 100 female finishers receive a commemorative mug, as do the first 10 male and female finishers over age 50.
Registration and Logistics
Early packet pickup is available on multiple days before the race at Sportspectrum (6970 Fern Avenue). Race day registration and check-in are at the Mall St. Vincent parking lot from 6:00 a.m. A race t-shirt or tank top (adult sizes only for tanks) is included with registration, but participants can opt out to save $5. Shirts are not guaranteed for race day registrants.
