Spokane Homelands 27K
The Spokane Homelands 27K is a trail race held on the Spokane Indian Reservation near Fruitland, WA. The course covers a 27 kilometer distance on public roads and service tracks within land managed by the Spokane Tribe’s Department of Natural Resources. The event location is about an hour from the city of Spokane and about a half hour north of Davenport.
The course accumulates about 3,400 feet of elevation gain, with the majority of that gain occurring in the first 8.5 miles. Runners climb steadily to the Westend Lookout Tower near the top of the mountain. On a clear day there are views extending as far as Airway Heights.
Racing begins on a short paved section before moving onto a gravel road and then onto an old service road. The entire route follows double track, but these roads are uneven and require attention to foot placement. The start and finish are at Anderson Ranch, which is owned and operated by the Spokane Tribe’s Department of Natural Resources. After reaching the summit section near the lookout tower, the course returns along the same corridors back to the start and finish area.
