South Island Half Marathon : Lake Hood, Ashburton
The South Island Half Marathon takes place at Lake Hood in Ashburton, Canterbury, on Sunday 2 August 2026. Events are set on a certified road race course measured for World Athletics and AIMS and use laps around the Lake Hood catchment.
The programme includes a Half Marathon (21.1 km), a 1/6 Marathon (7 km) and a Kidz Dash (1.5 km) for 7 to 13 year olds. Walk and hybrid options are available for the Half Marathon and the 7 km distance. The Half Marathon is run over three laps of the lake; the 7 km course is one lap.
Minimum ages are 13 years for the Half Marathon and 10 years for the 7 km event. The course has 1 km markers and two drink stations, one at about 3.5 km and another just past the start area. Race numbers are to be pinned to the front of the running shirt. The course is not suitable for wheelchair athletes or for prams; Achilles athletes may take part.
Runners and walkers share the lapped route, with walkers and hybrid competitors starting ahead of the main runners. The event also supports local rescue and charity organisations through fundraising options at entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
