South Downs Trail Run
The South Downs Trail Run starts at Goodwood Racecourse and runs into the South Downs National Park. The event has previously attracted over 1,000 runners. The route offers long views toward the North Downs, Chichester Harbour, and the Isle of Wight on a clear day.
The course weaves through forest tracks, skirts Levin Down, and includes a stretch of the South Downs Way. Runners pass a downhill into East Dean and then return to finish at Goodwood Racecourse after a final climb. Terrain includes forest fire roads, bridleways, and single-track trails, providing a varied off-road surface throughout the course.
Three distances are available:
- 21.3k Half Marathon
- 16.5k Trail Run
- 12k Trail Run
Canicross entries are available for the distances. The event uses chip timing and provides on-course refreshments, water stations, first aid cover, marshals, a metal finisher medal, a personalised certificate, and finisher goodies. The route is clearly signed with pink arrows and pink tape; hazards and road junctions are marked with caution signs.
Participants should note the event is plastic free at water stations and are asked to bring a reusable cup or bottle. One dog per runner is permitted; dog guidance includes bringing poo bags, water, treats, and an appropriate lead. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
