South Downs Trail Run - Goodwood Racecourse, Chichester
The South Downs Trail Run is a sell-out event attracting over 1,000 runners, held on Saturday 7th November 2026. The race is based at Goodwood Racecourse and takes competitors into the South Downs National Park, with views that can include the North Downs, Chichester Harbour and the Isle of Wight on a clear day.
The route is routed to showcase local terrain. It weaves through forest tracks, skirts the edge of Levin Down, joins a stretch of the South Downs Way, drops into East Dean then finishes back at Goodwood after a final climb. Underfoot runners encounter a mix of forest fire roads, bridleways and single-track trails.
Distances on offer include:
- 21.3 km Half marathon distance, canicross available
- 16.5 km Medium trail distance, canicross available
- 12.0 km Short trail distance, canicross available
Event services and on-course features include chip timing, high-quality metal finisher medals, finisher goodies and a personalised certificate. First aid cover, on-course refreshments, water stations and marshals are provided. The course is signed with pink arrows and pink tape and hazards and road junctions are marked with caution signs. One dog per runner is permitted and organisers advise bringing poo bags, water, treats and an appropriate lead. Runners collect bibs on arrival and the event operates a plastic free policy for water stations so reusable cups or bottles are encouraged.
