Sourton Tors Fell Race
The Sourton Tors Fell Race is an off road event on the open moorland of Dartmoor. The main course is approximately 5.25 km long with an ascent of 276 m. The route is entirely off road and uses open moorland terrain.
This year the race uses a new route and a new race headquarters at Sourton Village Hall on the A386 near Okehampton. The start is from the moorgate and the finish is next to the village hall. Parking is likely to be available in the farmer field next to the hall with a marshal directing vehicles.
There are compulsory checkpoints at several locations including near the Ice Works, the trig point at Sourton Tors, the descent to Lake Moorgate and the pit south west of the tors. Fell Runners Association rules apply and the race is classified AS and licensed by the Fell Runners Association. Self navigation is required by all runners and there are no course markers.
The organiser does not provide mementoes and entry fees reflect this. Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female and to age categories. A GPX route map is provided. The organiser recommends carrying a whistle, raincoat and hat in poor weather and a map and compass if unfamiliar with the course.
