Sourton Tors Fell Race

The Sourton Tors Race is a traditional off road fell race on Dartmoor, organised from Sourton Village Hall on the A386 near Okehampton. The course uses open moorland and follows a new route that climbs to Sourton Tors before looping around the valley and returning to the village hall. The main event covers approximately 5.25 km with about 276 m of ascent. There are compulsory checkpoints located near the Ice Works, the trig point at Sourton Tors, the descent to Lake Moorgate and the pit south west of the tors.

Self-navigation is required by all runners; the race is run without course markers. The event is held under the rules of the Fell Runners Association and is licensed and classified AS. There is no mandatory kit, but a whistle, raincoat and hat are advisable in poor weather, and a map and compass may be helpful for those unfamiliar with the route. Race headquarters is at Sourton Village Hall; the start is from the moorgate and the finish is next to Race HQ. Parking is likely in the farmer’s field next to the hall with a marshal directing vehicles.

Prizes are awarded for first male and female and for age categories. There are no mementoes, reflected in a low entry fee. A GPX file of the route is available and the route can be checked before race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
