Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 - Stop 13 - Springfield 6.6K
This event is a 6.6K run and walk through Springfield, Illinois, presented as Stop 13 of a statewide Route 66 series. The course passes through the capital’s historic district and highlights preserved streets, historic homes, and sections of original Route 66 pavement near the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
Each stop of the series includes a shared Sidekick segment of 2.1 miles, where participants join a runner who is completing the Illinois stretch of Route 66 solo to honor people living with ALS. The shared segment is intended as a symbolic portion of the route that emphasizes solidarity and community support.
Participants receive a custom Stop 13 bib, a Springfield Route 66 charm for the series medal, and access to a post-run celebration with the event community. Event shirts are optional and available for purchase during registration. The event describes the distance as a way to honor the long journey families travel with ALS and connects the local historic setting to the series mission.
The description focuses on the route, the historic setting around the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Sidekick segment of the series, and the items included for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
