Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 - Stop 14 - Divernon 6.6K
The Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 series continues with Stop 14 in Divernon, Illinois. This event takes place at the location of a restored historic gas station, an iconic landmark on Route 66 featuring original-style pumps and vintage signage. The route provides a scenic course through the town, reflecting the history and character of the Mother Road.
Participants take part in a 6.6 km run or walk, a distance chosen to symbolize the 2,400-mile journey of Route 66. This specific stop is part of a larger series supporting a solo runner traveling the entire Illinois stretch of the road to raise awareness for those living with ALS. As part of the event, there is a 2.1-mile (approx. 3.4 km) shared "sidekick" segment where participants run alongside the series lead to show support and solidarity.
The event is hosted at the corner of Brown Street and Reichert Road. It is open to all paces and ages, focusing on community participation and the preservation of Route 66 history. Those participating can earn a Stop 14 badge as part of their progress through the regional series. Registration is available for individual stops or as part of a multi-event bundle.
