Event overview
The Solar 5k/15k takes place on August 9, 2026, in Boston, PA (1902 Donner St, 15135). This is the 13th edition of the event, formerly known as the Polar Vortex. The event offers two distances:

- 15k
Entry fee for each event is listed as $20. At the time of the listing there were 145 spots left for each event and the price increases after January 1, 2026. The race is sanctioned by USATF. Proceeds benefit Elizabeth Forward Meals on Wheels.
Course, services and policies
The course follows a flat rails-to-trails route on crushed limestone. Water stops are provided at mile 1.55 (5k turnaround) and mile 4.66 (15k turnaround). awards are given to the top three men and top three women overall, masters men and women, and the top three in each age group (10 and under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70+). Medals will not be mailed and awards have no duplications.
The event has a zero refund policy. Transfers of race or distance are allowed before the race but distances may not be changed after the race has started. Special cross country team pricing is noted for middle and high school teams. Participants are asked not to use headphones or bring pets. Shirt availability is tied to preregistration and no shirts will be mailed after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
