SMR Mayapple Trail Runs
The SMR Mayapple Trail Runs are held in the South Mountain Reservation in Essex County, New Jersey. The event includes several trail race distances: 50 miles, 50K (approximately 31 miles), 20 miles, 10 miles, 5 miles, and a Kids 1 Mile Run. The courses consist of loops through the 2,110-acre reservation.

The races use an east loop and a west loop, each just over 10 miles, and a separate 5-mile loop. The course includes gravel roads, single-track trails, and a short paved section, with a combination of level paths, rolling hills, and steep ascents. The east and west loops total about 1,500 feet of ascent, while the 5-mile loop has about 700 feet of ascent.
Aid stations are positioned roughly every five miles on the east and west loops, offering electrolyte drinks, water, granola bars, pretzels, and snacks. The event is organized by volunteers from the South Mountain Conservancy, with proceeds supporting the Conservancy's mission of trail maintenance and public programs.
Participants can register on the day of the race using a mobile device. Group discounts are available for 10 or more people. Volunteers with the Conservancy may be eligible for registration discounts or waivers. No monetary refunds are offered, but a 50% rollover discount may be applied to the following year's race if a runner cancels more than 15 days before the event.
