Smith's Knob Scramble
Smith's Knob Scramble, held in Montoursville, PA at 3026 Sand Spring Rd, is part of the Rocksylvania series in the Slate Division. The main event is an 8 mile trail race that follows the Loyalsock Trail and climbs the steep Smith's Knob vista.
Distances:
- 8 mile full Scramble following Loyalsock Trail over Smith's Knob
- 4.5 mile Half Scramble loop that does not reach the Smith's Knob vista
The Half Scramble, added in 2024, uses a mix of single track and logging roads and covers the beginning and end portions of the full course. It is not included in the Rocksylvania series.
Awards are given to overall male and female winners and to first place male and female in age categories: 14 and under, 15-19, then 10 year age groups up to 60 and over.
Participant numbers are limited to a maximum of 200 because of restricted parking; organizers encourage carpooling. Proceeds are split between the Hughesville Cross Country program and the Think Big pediatric cancer fund. A $500 Cross Country Award is designated as two graduating senior scholarships of $250 each, one male and one female, with remaining proceeds to Think Big.
