Smiddy Fun Run 2026
Smiddy Fun Run is an annual community event on the PA Hospital campus that raises funds for melanoma and skin cancer research. The 2026 edition marks the 20th year of the event and takes place on 19 November at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) on the PA Hospital campus.
The event uses a 5 km course that circles the TRI building five times. Registration has an early bird fee of $20 available until 5 November. The listing shows 30 entrants so far and current fundraising progress of $2,274 toward a $10,000 goal; historically the event has raised over $215,000 for skin cancer research.
Participants may run or walk the course. A light breakfast is provided after the event, with gluten free and dairy free options. Funds raised support melanoma and skin cancer research activities at the PA Hospital campus, including contributions toward equipment and researcher time. Examples of how donations are used are provided: $25 toward community skin checks, $50 for laboratory consumables, and $100 for an hour of a researcher's time.
The event commemorates a PA Hospital physiotherapist who died from malignant melanoma and directs participant fundraising to local research and screening initiatives. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
