SMFA 5K Toy Run
The event is a community 3.1 mile run through the center of San Miguel with the course starting and finishing at the historic Rios-Caledonia Adobe. The route passes the San Miguel Fire Department, Lillian Larsen Elementary School, and Mission San Miguel Arcángel. Registered participants receive a race shirt, awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, and a complimentary post-run meal will be provided.
Registration opens July 2 and closes September 7, with fees that vary by registration period; children 10 and under are free. The event will be held rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe. Limited parking is available at the Rios-Caledonia Adobe with overflow parking at Mission San Miguel Arcángel and along Mission Street toward the San Miguel Fire Department; posted signs and event volunteers will provide directions. Well behaved dogs on a leash and strollers are welcome, and participants with strollers or pets are asked to start toward the back of the starting group.
All proceeds support the purchase of Christmas toys for local children through the San Miguel Firefighter Association Christmas Parade. New, unwrapped toy donations may be brought to the event; the parade typically welcomes about 300 children to the fire station for a visit with Santa Claus and a gift.
