Smelter City Scamper : Anaconda, MT
The Smelter City Scamper is a community race hosted by the Anaconda Community Market at Kennedy Commons in Anaconda, Montana. It is organized as a fundraiser to support the Anaconda Community Market and local food access programs, with proceeds staying in the community.
All races start and finish at Kennedy Commons. Available race options include:
- 13.1 Miles Half Marathon
- 10K Run
- 5K Run or Walk
- 100 Yards One block sprint for children ages 2 to 8, free to enter
Course notes from organizers indicate the routes pass through historic neighborhoods and Washoe Park. The half marathon includes the West Valley Loop and views of the Pintler Mountains. The 10K route includes the Lorry Thomas wildlife area. Organizers describe the courses as flat and fast and suitable for runners seeking personal bests.
The event is beginning a cupless race initiative to reduce single use waste and encourage runners to carry personal hydration. During the transition, cups will remain available on course. The first 300 racers to pick up race packets will receive a Hydrapak Speed Cup, and all racers are offered a 20% discount on Hydrapak gear.
Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the race and again the morning of the event at Kennedy Commons. The Scamper takes place during Smeltermen’s Day weekend and finishes where community activities continue, including a nearby brewfest.
