Smelter City Scamper
The Smelter City Scamper is a community-focused running event held in Anaconda, Montana. Managed by the Anaconda Community Market, the race serves as a fundraiser to support local food access programs and community health initiatives. Participants gather at Kennedy Commons, which serves as the central hub for the various race courses.
The event features several flat and fast course options designed for runners and walkers:
- 1/2 Marathon: A 13.1 mile route through historic neighborhoods, Washoe Park, and the West Valley Loop.
- 10K Run: A 10 km course passing through Washoe Park and the Lorry Thomas wildlife area.
- 5K Run or Walk: A 5 km route centered around historic neighborhoods and Washoe Park.
- 1 Block Sprint: A 100 yard free dash for children aged 2 to 8 years old.
The longer routes offer views of the Pintler Mountains and historic local landmarks. Because the event coincides with Smeltermen's Day weekend, the finish area at Kennedy Commons leads directly into a local brewfest celebration. The race welcomes local residents and visitors to participate in a hometown atmosphere that emphasizes physical wellness and regional food systems.
