Slieve Bawn
The Slieve Bawn mountain run takes place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in County Roscommon. The main route is an 8 km loop with an elevation gain of 250 meters. The course follows hard-packed gravel roads and features a small change from the previous year's route. It is one continuous anticlockwise loop.
A shorter course is also available, which is an out-and-back route covering approximately 4.5 km with about 100 meters of elevation gain. Juniors are welcome to participate.
The route is fully marked, and GPS devices are not allowed. The event is part of both the Galway League and the North West League.
A specific list of mandatory kit must be brought to the event. This includes:
- Waterproof jacket
- Hat or buff
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored
- Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent
The exact kit to be carried during the race will be decided on the day based on conditions and announced at registration. All runners must have the means to carry this kit. Random checks may be performed.
Registration opens on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 21:00 and closes on Friday, July 24 at 18:00. Entry costs €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. The entry limit is 250 participants.
The meeting point, car park, start, and finish are all at the same main car park area beside wind turbine T20 at the Sliabh Bawn Wind Farm Recreation Area. Prize-giving and refreshments will be held near the finish line at the registration area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
