Slickville 5K Coal Mine Climb and 2 Mile Fun Walk
The event takes place on August 8, 2026 in Slickville, Pennsylvania at the intersection of Rte 819 and Main Street as part of the Slickville Community Days celebration. It offers a timed 5K race and a noncompetitive 2 mile walk, and includes post-event community activities.
- 5K race on a backcountry route with multiple hills
- 2 miles on a gentler course through town and returning on the Westmoreland Heritage Trail
The 5K route rises to a slate mound and passes the Slickville sign that overlooks the town; the 2 mile walk follows streets for the first half and returns to the trail where observers can view runners approaching the summit. On April 12, 2026 the race director was informed that the property owner of the slate mound did not grant permission to use that area this year. Registration was suspended until May 23, 2026 while an alternative route is determined and approved by the Slickville Centennial Committee. Updates will be posted when they are available.
Registration windows and fees are listed for adult and youth entries. After the event, participants are offered a complimentary pancake breakfast with locally sourced maple syrup provided by the Slickville Community Church and Maple Lodge. Community attractions include an awards presentation, a car show, craft and food booths, children’s activities, cow patty bingo, musical entertainment, and a fireworks display later in the day.
