Slickville Coal Mine Climb 5K and 2 Mile Fun Walk
The Slickville Coal Mine Climb event on 08/08/2026 takes place in Slickville, Pennsylvania at the intersection of Rte 819 and Main Street. Organizers selected a new course for 2026 because the former coal mounds are pending reclamation. The revised route uses most of the former course in the opposite direction and still runs and walks past the former mine site.
Distances offered include:
- 5K run for adult and youth categories
- 2 Miles walk with route options for adult and youth
Walkers may choose between an easier route and a more challenging, scenic walking route. Registration fees listed for 2026 are $25 for the adult 5K, $20 for the youth 5K, and $15 for each 2 mile walk category. An awards ceremony follows the event. Participants are asked to bring a canned good or other non perishable item for donation to the Westmoreland County Food Bank.
After the run and walks, participants receive a complimentary pancake breakfast featuring locally sourced maple syrup provided by the Slickville Community Church and Maple Lodge. The day also features a car show, craft and food booths, children's activities, cow patty bingo, musical entertainment throughout the day and evening, and a fireworks display after dark.
