About the race
The SISU Ski Fest is a community cross-country ski event held on January 9, 2027 in and around Ironwood, Michigan. The festival features multiple point-to-point races that begin on ABR Trails and finish in downtown Ironwood, with well groomed trails through forested landscapes, sections along the Montreal River and a former railroad grade, and a route that passes through Miners Memorial Heritage Park before the final approach to the downtown City Square.
Event distances:
- 30K SISU Ski Race, point-to-point from ABR Trails to downtown Ironwood.
- 15K Heikki Lunta Ski Race, point-to-point from ABR Trails to downtown Ironwood.
- 5K Hauska Hiihto Fun Ski, point-to-point on the last 5K of the race course.
The 30K and 15K races include racer gifts and eligibility for prize awards and random prize drawings. The event is designated fluoro FREE; no fluoro waxes should be used on skis. The Hauska Hiihto is timed for fun and does not offer awards. A Depot Dash for children age 10 and under takes place the Friday before the main race and includes skis and boots when needed, volunteers, medals, hot chocolate, cookies and a small bonfire.
Post-race food and an expo are hosted at the Ironwood Memorial Building in conjunction with registration and bib pick-up. SISU Ski Fest operates under the ABR Trails Foundation and awarded $3,500 in local grants to area organizations to support youth programs, trail improvements, and trail rerouting.
