Event Overview
The Silverdale Rotary Turkey Trot is an annual running event held at Newberry Hill Heritage Park. The races take place entirely within a wooded environment, away from vehicular traffic and paved streets. All proceeds from the event support non-profit organizations and initiatives dedicated to fighting hunger within the local community.
Distances and Course Routes
Participants can choose from several distance options held on the park's trail system:
- 10k: Two laps of the loop road with a slight trail variation.
- 5k: A single lap covering the Old Loop Road.
- 1 Mile: An out-and-back course starting and ending at the main line.
- 100 Yards: A dash for children that finishes at the main finish line.
The courses for the 1 mile, 5k, and 10k primarily follow a wide fire road composed of packed dirt and rock. The 5k and 10k routes feature approximately 200 feet of elevation gain per lap. The 10k course includes a short section on a narrower side trail to reach the full distance.
Logistics and Participation
Parking is located at Klahowya Secondary School, with clear signage directing participants from Newberry Hill Road to the staging area on the Heritage Park access road. The event utilizes chip timing for the adult distances. Strollers are permitted on the course, though the 10k includes a brief narrow section. Leashed dogs are also allowed to participate.
Awards include medals for the top male and female finishers in the primary distances, and ribbons are provided for first through fifth place across various age categories. All children participating in the dash receive commemorative ribbons. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
