SilverBackTrails Goathland V Trigs
The event starts and finishes at Goathland Village Hall in Goathland, within the North York Moors National Park. Runners or walkers navigate a self-chosen route of approximately circa 37 miles, visiting five Triangulation Pillars and a series of checkpoints that must be visited in the order provided before the event.
Participants may enter as a solo or as a pair. The route must use public rights of way. Checkpoint and pillar locations, a suggested route map at registration, and a GPX file are issued to entrants in advance to allow route planning. Three checkpoint locations will provide snacks and drinks, and there is one mystery checkpoint revealed only while on the course.
This is a self-supported event with no support crews or support runners/walkers permitted. Competitors must be comfortable with map and compass navigation; the organiser states the navigation is not too difficult and that checkpoint locations are prominent. Participants have 15 hours to complete the full course and should expect to potentially finish in the dark.
All participants must carry required safety and navigation kit, including a map covering the North York Moors, working compass and whistle, head-torch plus spare torch or batteries, emergency bivvy bag, spare warm clothing, waterproofs with taped seams unless Paramo, battery pack and charging lead, a charged mobile phone, at least 500 ml of drink, at least 60 g of emergency food, and a cup for checkpoint drinks. There may be spot kit checks on the route.
There are no parking facilities at the village hall; village car parks should be used. Entry is limited to 65 participants. Entry fees are £70 per pair or £35 per solo entry. All finishers receive a medal and a certificate. A hot meal with vegetarian and gluten-free options is provided after the event. Participants must be over 18 on the day unless taking part as a pair accompanied by an adult. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
