Event details

The SilverBackTrails Goathland V Trig Ultra takes place on Saturday 18 April 2026, starting and finishing at Goathland Village Hall in The North York Moors National Park. The route is approximately circa 37 miles and visits five listed Triangulation Pillars. The event accepts solo entries and pairs; fees are £30 per solo and £60 per pair. Entries open 22 April 2025 and close 16 April 2026, with a maximum field of 65 participants.

There are no parking facilities at the village hall; participants should use car parks in the village. All finishers receive a certificate, a memento and a cloth badge. A hot meal and hot drinks will be available at the finish, with vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Format and requirements

Participants navigate the course themselves using public rights of way. Control point and pillar locations will be sent out before the event and a suggested route will be available on a master map at registration. Three control points will provide some snacks and drinks. One control point location is withheld until competitors are on the course and contains an item that must be returned to the finish. The event is self-supported; no support crews or support runners/walkers are allowed. Pairs and solos must visit every control point and complete the full course. The time limit for the event is 15 hours and participants may finish in the dark. Participants must be over 18 on the day unless taking part as a pair accompanied by an adult.

Required kit includes a full North Yorkshire Moors map (OS or Harvey’s), working compass and whistle, head-torch with spare torch or batteries, emergency bivvy bag, spare hat and gloves, spare warm long-sleeved top or fleece, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams unless Paramo, battery pack and charging lead, charged mobile phone with the race director mobile number (OS Locate and What3words recommended), at least 500 ml of water, at least 60 g of emergency food and a cup for drinks at control points.
