The SilverBackTrails Goathland V Trig Challenge is a self-navigation ultra event for runners and walkers. Based in the village of Goathland within the North York Moors National Park, the course spans approximately 37 miles. Participants must visit five specific Triangulation Pillars and additional checkpoints in a prescribed order.

Registration and the event hub are located at Goathland Village Hall. The event is open to solo participants or pairs, with a total entry limit of 65 people. One unique aspect involves a mystery checkpoint location only revealed during the event, where participants must collect an item to bring to the finish.

The course requires participants to be self-sufficient and capable of using a map and compass to navigate via public rights of way. While the exact route is chosen by the participant, a suggested GPX file and map are provided beforehand. There are three aid stations along the route providing snacks and drinks. All participants have a 15-hour time limit to complete the challenge.

Mandatory equipment includes a map of the North York Moors, a working compass, a whistle, head-torches with spare batteries, an emergency bivvy bag, and waterproof clothing with taped seams. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate, a memento, and a cloth badge. A hot meal, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, is provided at the finish.
