SilverBackTrails Goathland V Trig Ultra
The event starts and finishes in Goathland in the North York Moors National Park. Runners and walkers navigate a route of about 37 miles, visiting five listed Triangulation Pillars. Participants choose their own route using public rights of way, and must visit checkpoints in the order given before the event. Checkpoint locations and a suggested route map are issued in advance, and a GPX of the suggested route is provided. A map will also be available at registration.
The event is open to solo entrants and to pairs. It is self-supported, with no support crews or additional helpers allowed; there are three checkpoints that provide snacks and drinks. One checkpoint location is withheld until participants reach an on-course checkpoint; that location contains an item that must be returned to the finish.
Participants have a 15 hour time limit to complete the course and should be prepared to finish in the dark. Required kit includes a map covering the North Yorkshire Moors, a working compass and whistle, a head-torch with spare torch or batteries, an emergency bivvy bag, spare hat and gloves, a spare warm long-sleeved top, waterproof jacket and waterproof bottoms with taped seams unless using Paramo, a battery pack with charging lead and a charged mobile phone, at least 500 ml of water, at least 60 g of emergency food, and a cup. OS Locate and What3words are recommended.
Entry is limited to 65 participants. Entry fees are £60 per pair and £30 for solo entrants. All finishers receive a certificate, a memento and a cloth badge. A hot meal with vegetarian and gluten-free options is provided after the event. An optional technical event T shirt is available for purchase.
