SilverBackTrails Goathland V Trigs
This navigational trail event starts and finishes at the Village Hall in Goathland in The North York Moors National Park. Runners or walkers navigate a course of circa 37 miles, visiting five Triangulation Pillars. The event can be entered as a pair or as a solo participant.
Participants choose their own route while using public rights of way; all checkpoints must be visited in the order provided. Checkpoint and pillar locations will be sent to participants before the event, and a suggested route map plus a GPX file will be available at registration. There is one mystery checkpoint that is revealed on the course at a marshalled location.
The event is self support with three checkpoint locations offering snacks and drinks. No support crews or support runners or walkers are allowed; pairs and solos must complete the full course and visit each checkpoint. Participants should be comfortable using map and compass; the navigational element is described as not too difficult with CPs in prominent locations.
The minimum kit list includes a map covering the North Yorkshire Moors (OS or Harvey’s), working compass and whistle, head-torch and spare torch or batteries, emergency bivvy bag, spare hat and gloves, spare warm long-sleeved top or fleece, waterproof jacket and waterproof bottoms with taped seams unless Paramo, battery pack and charging lead, charged mobile phone, at least 500 ml of water, at least 60 g of emergency food, and a cup for drinks at CPs. Participants have 15 hours to complete the route and may finish in the dark.
Entry is limited to 65 participants. Entry fees are £70 per pair or £35 for solos. There is no parking at the village hall; village car parks should be used. All finishers receive a medal and a certificate. A hot meal with vegetarian and gluten free options is provided at the end. An optional technical T shirt is available for £18.
