Show Me Your Free State Marathon and Ultra
The Show Me Your Free State Marathon and Ultra is a single-day event offering multiple distances on a 25 mile loop that begins and ends near Rosecrans Memorial Airport in St. Joseph, Missouri. The route crosses into Kansas for most of the course and follows riverbank, Gladden Bottoms, and sections near the Loess Hills.
The loop has about 138 feet of elevation gain per circuit. Surface types include roughly 10 miles of paved road, about 1 mile of dirt road through a cornfield, and the remainder on gravel or crushed limestone levee trail. The course crosses US Highway 36 at Wathena; crossings are monitored by volunteers.
Distances:
- 100 mile, four laps
- 50 mile, two laps
- 50 kilometer, one lap plus a 3 mile out and back
- Marathon, one lap plus a 1.2 mile finish loop
- Half marathon, out and back to mile 6.55
Manned aid stations supply water, sports drink, salty snacks, fruit, sweets, and warm food after dark. Unmanned stations offer water and limited snacks. First aid items are available at stations.
Logistics include drop bag rules for 50 and 100 mile runners, crew access at designated locations, and restrictions on crew vehicles entering unpaved roads. Pacers are allowed for 50 and 100 mile runners after their first lap and must wear a pacer bib obtained at packet pickup. Age minimums apply by distance. Registration is nonrefundable and swag availability may be limited for late entrants. Typical late October temperatures are daytime highs in the upper 60s Fahrenheit and nighttime lows in the lower 40s, with rapidly changing conditions possible.
