Course, logistics and awards
The Marathon and Half Marathon use an out-and-back road course with views of Shiprock Pinnacle and a long gentle downhill on the return. Aid stations are available approximately every mile and offer gels, fresh fruit, Gatorade, water, and snacks. Portajohns and medical support are provided along the course and at the finish. There are two mandatory course cutoffs during the event.
The 5K includes individual and team scoring. Team competition requires five runners per team and is scored like a cross country race. The Elder Run is presented as a fun-run with no timing or awards; finishers receive a medal. Marathon and Half Marathon finishers receive medals. Overall and age-group awards are presented, with age groups in five-year increments and awards for top finishers. Packet pick-up takes place at the Shiprock Youth Center parking area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
