Shiprock Marathon
The Shiprock Marathon is an annual event held in Shiprock, New Mexico, entering its 43rd year. The event features a variety of distances held over two days, centered around the Shiprock Youth Center. The road courses are out-and-back routes that offer views of the Shiprock Pinnacle and include a long, gentle downhill slope on the return journey.
The marathon course is USATF Certified, making it a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon and the Abbott Marathon Majors Masters World Championships. The event also provides professional pacers to assist participants with specific time goals. On Friday, the 5K takes place as a trail race on the Blueberry Hill course.
Available distances include:
- 26.22 miles (Marathon)
- 13.11 miles (Half Marathon)
- 5 km (Trail Race)
- 2 miles (Elder Run)
- 1 mile (Ashlynne Mike Mile)
Course support includes aid stations positioned every mile for the marathon and half marathon, offering water, electrolytes, gels, and fruit. Live music featuring traditional, country, and rock sounds is provided along the route. Participants can also enter as teams of five runners, where individual times are combined for cross-country style scoring. Charity bib options are available for those who commit to fundraising for non-profit organizations.
All finishers in the marathon and half marathon receive a medal. The 5K trail race and longer Saturday races provide awards for overall and age-group winners. Post-race amenities include snack boxes, a food truck, and a dedicated fruit tent. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
