Event Overview
The Shiprock Marathon is a two-day running event in Shiprock, New Mexico. It is the 43rd annual edition of the event, which takes place on the first weekend of May.
Events and Schedule
Events are held over Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, 2026.
- Friday: The 5K is a trail race on the Blueberry Hill course. The Ashlynne Mike Mile and the Elder Run (open to ages 60-110) are also held. The Elder Run is described as a fun-run style event with no timing.
- Saturday: The Marathon and Half Marathon are road races. A Hand Cycle - Marathon event is also offered. The marathon course is a USATF-certified out-and-back route that includes views of Shiprock Pinnacle and features a gentle long downhill slope on the return.
Participant Information
All 5K participants receive a performance t-shirt, race poster, swag, and post-race snacks. Finishers of the Elder Run receive a medal. For the Saturday races, all marathon and half marathon finishers receive a medal. Aid stations with Honey Stinger gels, fresh fruit, Gatorade, water, and other snacks are available every mile along the marathon and half marathon courses. There is medical support on the route and at the finish. There are two course cutoffs: runners must be off N13 and onto US 491 by noon, and all runners must finish by 2:00 PM. A post-race area provides food, including a snack box for finishers, pizza from a Domino's food truck, and other snacks and beverages. Live music is scheduled along the course and at the finish line.
Awards and Timing
Awards are given for the 5K, marathon, and half marathon. For the 5K, there are awards for top individual overall, top three age-group winners, and team winners. For the marathon and half marathon, overall awards (top three male and female) and age-group awards (top three in 5-year increments) are presented. Awards are based on gun time. Professional pacers from Beast Pacing are provided. Proceeds from the event benefit year-round outdoor adventure programs for Diné youth and families through NavajoYES.
