Shine A Light On Stroke (Newark, DE)
Shine A Light On Stroke is the third annual stroke awareness 5K run/walk taking place on May 9, 2026 in Newark, DE. The event is organized by two Delaware occupational and speech therapists and aims to increase support and awareness for stroke survivors and their caregivers.
Proceeds support individuals who have sustained a stroke by covering extra expenses such as adaptive equipment to improve safety and quality of life, mobility-related durable medical equipment, transportation to appointments, speech-generating devices, and thickener for dysphagia. Since the previous year the organizing group has become a nonprofit organization.
The course starts and finishes at Glasgow Park, 2275 Pulaski Highway, and a route map is provided for directional purposes. Running chairs will be available through a partnering organization and volunteers will assist pushing chair users along the course. Parking is planned in lots near the playground and the basketball courts.
Awards include overall male and female, overall masters, and top three finishers in each age group for male and female competitors. Age groups range from 9 and under through 70 plus. Registered participants receive a race shirt and post-race snacks; additional fundraising tiers are noted for earning extra event items.
