Shawnee Trail Runs
The Shawnee Trail Runs take place in Shawnee State Park and Forest near West Portsmouth, Ohio on October 3, 2026. The event offers loop trail races over largely secluded forest trails with notable elevation changes and limited signs of development on course.
Distances offered include:
- 54 miles (50 Mile)
- 31 miles (50K)
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
The 50 Mile course is a near-single loop that includes a 7 mile opening loop plus a continuous 47 mile loop, with approximately 11,000 feet of elevation gain. The 50K covers about 31 miles with roughly 6,500 feet of gain. The half marathon covers 13.1 miles with about 1,600 feet of gain. Much of the route follows the Shawnee State Forest backpack trail; the 50 Mile course includes a remote wilderness side trail section known as "The Dark Side."
Aid stations are tailored to distance and are categorized as water only, medium, or full. The event operates as a cupless race; runners must use a handheld bottle, bladder or collapsible cup. Medium and full aid stations offer Tailwind endurance drink in the noncaffeinated Mandarin Orange flavor. Drop bags are accepted at the start area on race morning.
Start and finish, packet pickup, and base services are located at the Shawnee State Park Lodge and Conference Center. Combined field capacity is 400 participants with a waitlist used if the field fills. Crewing is allowed only at designated crewable aid stations. Pacers are not permitted.
