The Shawnee Trail Runs take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in West Portsmouth, Ohio (4404 OH-125). Registration opens January 1, 2026. The event offers trail running over remote wilderness and portions of the Shawnee State Forest Backpack Trail.

Course information
The longest route begins with a 7 mile opening loop, then continues on a 47 mile loop before returning to the start/finish, for a total of 54 miles. The 54 mile route covers most of the 40 mile Shawnee State Forest Backpack Trail in a clockwise direction and includes a 9 mile remote section called "The Dark Side" that runs roughly from mile 36 to mile 46. The Dark Side is in a wilderness area with limited forest activity and hand-maintained trails.
The 50K bypasses the opening loop and joins the Backpack Trail, later separating around mile 20 via the Mackletree Bridle Trail and Service Road #2 before rejoining the Backpack Trail. The 13.1 mile distance was added in 2023 and includes notable hills while using smoother, more runnable trail sections. Elevation gains listed for each distance are: 54 miles - 11,000 feet; 50K - 6,500 feet; 13.1 mile - 2,600 feet. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
