Ohio's Backyard Ultra : Overview
Ohio's Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing running event held at McChesney Ridge Athletic Club in Lucasville, Ohio on March 21, 2026. The race is run on a measured loop of 4.1667 miles that is repeated hourly; loops continue until only one runner completes a loop alone and is declared the winner. Runners must be present in the starting corral when the next loop begins and there are no late starts once the loop has begun. Once a loop starts, runners must remain on course except to use porta-potties or briefly relieve themselves off course. Crews are permitted but limited to one member per runner, and runners are expected to provide their own aid.
The course uses different routing for day and night. The day loop consists of two 2.08-mile laps on double-track trail, gravel, grass, and dirt with about 450 to 475 feet of elevation gain. The night loop is an out-and-back measured at the same distance with about 150 feet of elevation gain and includes a stretch of pavement. Facilities at the site include nearby camping, porta-potties, water, coffee, some hot food options, and a space near the start/finish for small personal items.
Registration, field and policies
Field capacity is 110 runners. Entry fees are listed as $131.30 after opening and $141.95 after January 31, with registration closing on March 18, 2026; a waitlist is used once capacity is reached. The event uses an early-consideration period, general registration, reserved elite entries, and a private waitlist; early invites are offered to runners who reached 100+ miles in past editions and to all female participants from recent years. Five elite spots may be granted by organizer discretion after capacity is reached.
Prizes and policies: the Last Person Standing receives $500 and a commemorative prize; all other finishers are recorded as DNF and receive a DNF coin. Each registrant receives a t-shirt. Refunds are available only by the posted schedule: 100% refund if dropped 45 or more days before the event, 50% if 20-44 days, and 0% if 0-19 days. There are no rollovers or deferments into the next year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
