Event Overview
The Shawnee Mission Triathlon and Duathlon is an annual multisport event held at Shawnee Mission Park in Kansas. The venue is a 1,665-acre urban refuge that serves as one of the most visited parks in the state. The competition utilizes the park's diverse landscape and connects to the Mill Creek Streamway Trail, featuring asphalt pathways that run alongside a stream and through hillside forests.
The race is a USAT-Sanctioned event and has been designated as Paratriathlon Friendly. Participants can choose from five different event formats, including relay options.
2026 USA Triathlon Kansas State Championship
The 2026 edition serves as the USA Triathlon Kansas State Championship. This designation applies to several categories:
- Olympic-distance triathlon
- Sprint-distance triathlon
- High School State Championship (Sprint-distance)
- Club State Championships
No prior qualification is required to compete in the State Championship. However, the event serves as a qualifier for the USA Triathlon Nationals. The top 35% of finishers, or the top five finishers in each age group, in the Short Course and Olympic Triathlons earn qualification for the 2026 or 2027 Sprint and Olympic-Distance Nationals. All high school athletes who complete the High School State Championship race automatically qualify for the Sprint-Distance National Championships, provided they meet age requirements.
