Shawnee Mission Park Adventure Race
The event takes place at Shawnee Mission Park in Lenexa, Kansas, and uses the park's trails, prairie grasslands, and lake. The park connects with the Mill Creek Streamway Park and includes paved and single-track trails and preserved prairie areas. The event runs rain or shine.
Distances and formats include:
- 25 miles - 6-hour events for solo competitors and 2, 3, or 4 person teams
- 5 miles - 2-hour events for solo competitors and family or team entries
The 2-hour course is all on foot and is described as designed for beginners but may require longer trekking; racers should be prepared for several miles of trekking on paved trails and through brush, trees, and possible water. The 6-hour course combines trekking, mountain biking, and paddling. Component details list about 5-7 miles on foot, 15-25 miles mountain biking, and 1-2 miles paddling, and racers are advised to prepare for substantial mileage in each mode.
Maps for the 6-hour course are pre-plotted topographic maps and will be distributed at packet pickup on the morning of the event. The event is self-supported; participants carry their own food, water, first aid, and other gear. Boats, paddles, and life jackets will be provided for the 6-hour race, and teams may be assigned transition checkpoints while choosing their own routes and strategy.
