Shawnee Mission Park Adventure Race
The Shawnee Mission Park Adventure Race takes place in Lenexa, Kansas, within a park featuring nature trails, biking paths, and prairie grasslands. The event utilizes the Mill Creek Streamway Park, which includes over 17 miles of paved trails. This event is self-supported, and participants are responsible for carrying their own water, food, and first aid.
There are two primary course options available for individuals and teams:
- 2-Hour Adventure Race: A trekking-only course covering 6-8 miles on paved trails, through brush, and potentially water.
- 6-Hour Adventure Race: A multi-sport course involving 20+ miles of biking, 10 miles of hiking, and 1-2 miles of paddling.
For the 6-hour event, the race includes trekking on and off trails, single-track mountain biking, and paddling on the lake. Participants use topographic maps to navigate between checkpoints. Boats, paddles, and life jackets are provided for the paddling section of this course.
The race operates on a checkpoint system. While transition areas are mandatory, most other checkpoints are optional, letting teams choose their own routes and strategy. Maps are distributed on the morning of the event at check-in. The event proceeds in various weather conditions, including rain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
