Sgt Chris Hampton Memorial 5K : Dearborn, MI
The Sgt Chris Hampton Memorial 5K is an annual run/walk established in 2021 by the Dearborn Police Officers Charity to honor a fallen Dearborn police sergeant and to raise awareness of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues among first responders and the wider community. The event includes both an in-person 5K and a virtual 5K and is held in Dearborn at 500 Monroe.
Organizers partner with the City of Dearborn and a local race management company. Each year the event uses a theme drawn from 1980s movies; the 2026 theme is Rocky. The chosen date in May coincides with the end of National Police Week, a period when officers who lost their lives in the line of duty are recognized.
The event lists an ongoing sponsor that supports mental health outreach across the state and plans for a mental health advocate to take part. Proceeds benefit suicide prevention and response work; this year the primary beneficiary is a grassroots suicide resource and response network that has served Michigan since 1989. The event also supports organizations such as Call for Backup, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors.
Entry options have a stated fee and there are past examples of significant community involvement by sponsors, volunteers, and participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
