Race Overview
The Urban Estates Selwyn Marathon takes place in Lincoln, New Zealand, during the King's Birthday long weekend. Both the start and finish lines are located at the Lincoln Event Centre on Meijer Drive. The course is designed to showcase the Selwyn district, blending the urban development of Lincoln with a rural atmosphere.
The event offers three primary distances:
- Full Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10 km
The Full Marathon consists of two laps of a 21.1 km loop course. The Half Marathon covers a single lap of this loop, while the 10 km event follows an out-and-back route with approximately 10 meters of elevation gain. The marathon for the full distance starts as a single group, while the half marathon and 10 km categories have separate start times for runners and walkers.
The course is flat and fast, with surfaces that include a run through the Rossendale Wines vineyard off the Akaroa Highway and sections along Old Tai Tapu Road. The route is officially certified by a Road Race Course Measurer for World Athletics in cooperation with AIMS.
Drink stations are positioned at intervals of approximately 4 km to 6 km throughout the course, specifically at the 4 km, 9.5 km, 15 km, 21 km, 25 km, 30.5 km, and 36 km marks, as well as at the finish line. These stations provide water and electrolyte drinks in cups, though participants using hydration vests may also refill their bottles or bladders at these locations.
