Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race & British 24 Hour Championships
The Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race is an annual endurance event held each September at Tooting Bec Athletics Track in London. The 2026 edition incorporates the British 24 Hour Championships and is organised by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in conjunction with Run and Become. The race has been held since 1989 and has produced national and world best records.
The event is a timed 24 hour track challenge in which competitors complete as many laps as possible. It is an IAU Bronze Label event and holds a UK Athletics Level 2 permit; performances may be used for international selection. Entry is restricted to experienced ultrarunners with recent race experience of at least 100K distance or 12 hours duration. The field is limited to 55 competitors and places are selected on the basis of previous experience and potential, with a waiting list used when entries exceed the limit. The 2026 entry process opens on 4 February 2026 and payment is by credit card on acceptance.
Race support includes lap counters, sports physiotherapists, officials, and trackside refreshments offering hot and cold drinks plus snacks. Trackside facilities include space for tents and support stations, a large tent for kit bags and tables, indoor changing rooms and toilets, a heated physio treatment room, and portable toilets. Live results and an on site scoreboard provide lap and distance information. Race procedures include periodic direction changes, number and chip requirements, and rules on pacing and phone use on certain lanes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
