Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race & British 24 Hour Championships
The Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race is an ultra-endurance event held at the Millennium Stadium Battersea Park. During this event, a selection of experienced runners attempt to cover the greatest possible distance within a 24-hour period by completing loops of the athletics track. First held in 1989, the race is organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in conjunction with Run and Become. For 2026, the event also hosts the British 24 Hour Championships.
The competition is conducted under UK Athletics Rules and holds an IAU Bronze Label. Participation is limited to 55 runners, and applicants must have completed at least a 100 km distance within the last two years to be considered for selection. The event is chip-timed, and trackside lap counters are present to manually record distances and provide support to the athletes.
Facilities at the Millennium Arena include:
- Heated indoor changing rooms and showers
- Heated indoor physiotherapy treatment room
- Trackside parking for cars and camper vans (pre-booked)
- Trackside space for personal tents or support stations
- Communal tent for runners without vehicles
- Toilets and trackside portaloos
The organizers provide vegetarian hot meals at various intervals throughout the 24-hour period, including post-race. Refreshments such as hot and cold drinks, along with sweet and salty snacks, are available trackside. Medical support, including sports medics and physiotherapists, is present on-site. Participants are required to bring a windproof jacket and full-length tights to prepare for potential inclement weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
