Self Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race & British 24 Hour Championships : Tooting Bec Athletics Track
This is an annual 24 hour track running event held each September in which selected ultra runners attempt to cover the greatest possible distance by completing repeated laps of the track. First held in 1989, the race has produced national and world best records. The 2026 edition also serves as the British 24 Hour Championships.
The event is organised by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in conjunction with Run and Become under UK Athletics rules. It is a chip timed, IAU Bronze Label event. Entry is limited to 55 competitors who are selected on the basis of previous experience and potential. Applicants must have completed at least a 100K distance in the last couple of years; entering does not guarantee acceptance and a waiting list operates. Payment of the entry fee is due within seven days of acceptance. Published entry fees are around £118 to £120, and entrants must be within the published age range.
Facilities and race support are provided throughout and include a live leaderboard, lap counting supervision, sports medics and physiotherapists, race officials, parking nearby, space for tents and support stations, a communal tent, indoor changing rooms, showers, a heated physio treatment room, nearby toilets and trackside portaloos, and trackside refreshments offering hot and cold drinks plus snacks. Race packs are sent in advance and on arrival runners receive a race number with chip and a race tee if ordered. All meals provided are vegetarian and organisers ask runners to bring a windproof jacket and full length tights or trousers. The race finishes with a horn and subsequent provision of meals, aid, showers, and provisional results. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
