Seattle Atatürk Unity Run
Organized by TACAWA, the Seattle Atatürk Unity Run is a community running event at Gas Works Park and along the Burke-Gilman Trail in Seattle. The event includes multiple on-site and virtual options and highlights views of Lake Union and the city skyline. It honors May 19, a historic day linked to the founding movement of modern Turkey, and commemorates Youth and Sports Day while marking the 145th birthday of the founder of the Republic of Turkey. The event emphasizes values such as youth, democracy, freedom, equality, science, reason, and community.
On-site offerings include a 5K and 10K that start and finish at Gas Works Park and follow the Burke-Gilman Trail toward the University of Washington. Both routes are described as flat and paved and are open to runners and walkers; strollers are welcome with a request to start toward the back. A Kids Dash of 200 yards takes place near the start/finish area and is for ages 5 and under; it is non-competitive and fun-focused. The Sip N Stroll is a relaxed 5K walking-only option where participants may bring non-alcoholic beverages. Virtual 5K and 10K options allow participation from any location during event weekend using a tracking app or device.
