Event overview
The SEASAR MHM Medicine Hat Massacre is an annual adventure race held in the Cypress Hills area near Elkwater, Cypress County, Alberta, Canada. The event offers a longer and a shorter option and takes place in May. The main event is a 9-hour adventure race that begins in darkness and uses checkpoints spread around the park. Teams navigate using a map and compass.
Race format
The full event combines multiple disciplines: hiking, mountain biking, paddling, and bushwhacking to reach checkpoints. Teams compete together, with navigation by map and compass. The shorter option, called SEASAR MHM Lite, is 4.5 hours and follows portions of the larger course. The Lite event starts in daylight and allows the use of a GPS in addition to a map and compass. Both formats include route navigation between checkpoints.
Registration and equipment
Registration is required and fees vary by registration period. There is an equipment page and an equipment check; some items are mandatory. The organizer provides separate entry options for the full race and the Lite race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
