Seaport Sprint in San Diego
Seaport Sprint is a sprint orienteering event held in downtown San Diego around the Embarcadero and Seaport Village area. Courses run from the USS Midway south to Embarcadero Marina Park North and follow the Embarcadero promenade past Tuna Harbor, public art, and naval memorials before winding through Seaport Village’s cobblestone paths and gardens and finishing on the lawns with bay views.
Courses are timed and organized by level: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Two one-hour start windows are offered; participants select a start block and then the course they will run. The event uses electronic punching for scoring; all competitors must bring, rent, or purchase an e-punch. Rental e-punches are available for a fee. Controls will be AIR+ enabled.
A compact sprint map will be used with a scale of 1:4000 and 2.5 m contours. The time limit for each course is one hour. An introductory clinic on basic orienteering skills will be offered before the starts.
Registration is required in advance. Entry is limited to 100 participants total, with a maximum of 50 per start window. Fees are listed as $20 for adults and $10 for juniors with a $5 early bird discount through August 22. HQ is expected to be at Ruocco Park; the final location will be confirmed. Paid parking is available nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
