Scranton Half Marathon
The Scranton Half Marathon is a two-day event held in Scranton, Pennsylvania, with the race course beginning and ending at PenFed Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium. The event program includes in-person and virtual options, a multi-distance challenge, and children’s fun runs.
Distances and options:
- 16.2 miles - The Doherty Double (5K and Half)
- 13.1 miles - Half Marathon Run, Walk, and Run/Walk category
- 3.1 miles - 5K run
- 0.25 and 0.5 miles - Kid’s fun runs for ages 5–12
The run/walk category allows mixed running and walking and is timed as a runner; the Half Marathon Walk is a walk-only, fully chip-timed event with its own awards and aid stations that begin near mile 7.5. The Doherty Double is not walk friendly. The half marathon course has a midpoint cutoff at North Washington Ave and Olive Street (about 8.3 miles); participants who do not meet the cutoff will be redirected and will not receive a recorded finish time. The 5K has a time cutoff as well; participants who do not finish within that timeframe will not receive a recorded time.
Participants receive race bibs, finisher medals for kids and half marathon finishers, and virtual entrants receive specified swag with pick-up or mailing options. The event has donated over $450,000 in its first eleven years to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
