Scranton Half Marathon
The 13th edition of the Scranton Half Marathon takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The event occurs over two days, centered around the PenFed Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium. This venue serves as both the starting and finishing point for the main races.
The weekend features several distinct categories and distances:
- 13.1 Miles: Half Marathon options for runners, walkers, and a combined run-walk category.
- 16.2 Miles: The Doherty Double, consisting of the 5 km run on Saturday and the Half Marathon run on Sunday.
- 3.1 Miles: A 5 km run-only event held on Saturday.
- Virtual Half Marathon: A remote option for participants to complete the distance at their chosen location.
- Kids Fun Run: Distance options of 1/4 mile (ages 5-8) and 1/2 mile (ages 9-12).
Course safety is maintained through specific cutoff times. Half Marathon participants must reach the 8.3-mile mark at the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Olive Street by a designated time, reflecting an 18-minute per mile pace for runners and a 28-minute per mile pace for walkers. Those unable to meet this requirement are directed back to the stadium. A 50-minute cutoff applies to the 5 km event.
Walkers in the 13.1-mile walk event must remain on sidewalks until the lead police vehicle secures the course. Aid stations for the walk category begin at mile 7.5. The event also includes a race expo held at the Scranton Running Company for bib and shirt collection. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
