Scranton Half Marathon
The 14th edition of the Scranton Half Marathon is scheduled for April 2027 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The event serves to highlight the local area and support local businesses, with the course starting and finishing at PenFed Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium.
Participants can choose from several distances and categories:
- 16.2 miles: The Doherty Double (combining the 5k and half marathon)
- 13.1 miles: Half Marathon (available as a run, walk, or run/walk category)
- 3.1 miles: 5k Run
- 1/4 mile: Kid's Fun Run (ages 5-8)
- 1/2 mile: Kid's Fun Run (ages 9-12)
The half marathon walk is a walk-only event where participants are not permitted to run. Walkers are required to stay on the sidewalks until the lead police vehicle passes, after which the course becomes fully secure. Aid stations for the walking event begin at the 7.5-mile mark. For the half marathon run and walk, a cutoff point is enforced at the 8.3-mile mark (North Washington Ave. and Olive Street) at 10:30 AM. Those who do not reach this point in time are directed back to the stadium and will not receive a recorded time. The 5k run has a 50-minute cutoff time.
The event also includes virtual options for the half marathon distance, allowing participants to complete the distance at any location. Virtual participants receive a bib, shirt, medal, and gift, but are not eligible for age group awards or cash prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
