Scio Scramble
Scio Scramble is an annual road race in Scio, Ohio, held on August 20, 2026, that serves as the kickoff to the Scio Summer Fest. The event traces its origins to the early 1980s and uses a revised course in its third year on that layout.
Distances and event types:
- 5K run (Top 3 overall; top 3 in five-year age groups)
- 5K walk (Top 3 overall; no age groups; must not run to qualify)
- Kids 1 mile run (open to ages up to 12; age groups by gender)
- Family 1 mile run/walk (timed; no awards)
The course is an out and back route on city streets and a paved rails-to-trails running path, beginning beside the lot next to the firehouse where registration takes place and finishing below the Scio Branch Library. The surface is paved and generally flat, loops through a neighborhood, then continues onto a paved trail that passes local foliage and crosses a covered bridge.
Every runner and walker receives a t-shirt and goody bag. Water is provided twice on course (out and back) and volunteers are stationed along the route. After the 5K, awards are presented at the firehouse with drinks, door prizes, and ice cream. Restrooms and showers are available at the firehouse. Listed registration fees for 2026 events are $20 for the 5K run and walk, and $10 for each one-mile event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
