Event Overview

The SBM Stride for Science is a timed 5K run/walk. It takes place on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Grant Park at the corner of E. Balbo Drive and DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.

Course Details

The route is along Lake Michigan, starting and ending in Grant Park. Participants can expect a scenic path with landmarks like the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field. A shorter, one-mile loop option will be marked at the Adler Planetarium.

Registration and Logistics

Registration involves a minimum donation of $40, which guarantees a run/walk shirt, sunglasses, and race bib. Proceeds support the Society of Behavioral Medicine's Bridging the Gap Research Award for postdoctoral research. Packet pick-up is available on Wednesday, April 22 at the SBM Annual Meeting Registration Desk in the Hilton Chicago, or on the event day at the start/finish line in Grant Park. Participants and volunteers meet in the Hilton Chicago lobby for a guided walk over to the park.

Awards and Volunteering

Awards for the top three overall male and female participants are presented at the Presidential Keynote & Awards Ceremony on the afternoon of the event. Volunteering roles are reserved for members of the SBM's Physical Activity SIG. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
