Event

SBM Stride for Science is a run/walk held in Grant Park, Chicago on April 23, 2026. The event is organized by the Society of Behavioral Medicine and lists the U.S. Army as presenting sponsor. Proceeds support postdoctoral research through SBM's Bridging the Gap Research Award. Fundraising for the event is managed by the Society of Behavioral Medicine; the current goal is $6,000.

Course and logistics

The timed 5K follows a route along Lake Michigan, starting and ending in Grant Park. The course passes landmarks including the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field. A marked shorter route option is available near the Adler Planetarium for a one-mile loop. Bib and shirt pick-up is available the day before at the Hilton Chicago registration desk and on race day at the start/finish area in Grant Park. SBM staff lead a walkover from the Hilton to Grant Park for registered participants.

Registration and volunteer roles

Registration is listed at $44.79, inclusive of mandatory charges. A minimum $40 donation guarantees a run/walk shirt, sunglasses, and race bib. Volunteering is reserved for members of SBM's Physical Activity SIG; listed volunteer duties include managing water stations, providing directions, leading warm-ups, pacing runners or walkers, and taking event photos. Awards for the top three overall male and female finishers are presented at the Presidential Keynote & Awards Ceremony on the same day.
