SBM Stride for Science : Grant Park, Chicago
SBM Stride for Science is a timed 5K run and walk that starts and ends in Grant Park at the corner of E. Balbo Drive and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, along the Lake Michigan lakefront. The course runs beside Lake Michigan and passes landmarks such as the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field. A marked shorter route option at the Adler Planetarium provides a one mile loop.
Registration includes a minimum donation that guarantees a run or walk shirt, sunglasses, and a race bib. The event raises funds for postdoctoral research through SBM's Bridging the Gap Research Award. A presenting sponsor is the U.S. Army and the Society of Behavioral Medicine is listed among the fundraising organizations.
Packet pick-up is available at the SBM Annual Meeting registration desk in the Hilton Chicago on the day before the run and at the start area in Grant Park on event day. Volunteers help with course directions, water stations, warm-up exercises, cheering at the start and finish area, photography, and pacing roles including lead, middle of the pack, and caboose pacers. Volunteer coordination is organized by SBM's Physical Activity special interest group.
Awards recognize the top three overall male and female finishers and awardees are acknowledged in an SBM email and on the conference app. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
