Event Overview
The Scare Bear Run 2026 is an annual themed running event held in Staines-upon-Thames. This event follows a flexible time challenge format, allowing participants to determine their own distance within a 7-hour limit. The course is situated along a stretch of the River Thames and consists of fully signed laps. The route primarily uses well-made paths and tarmac with a very short grass section, making road shoes suitable for the terrain.
Participants can choose from several distance options or complete as many laps as they wish within the time frame:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon
A full lap is typically 4.37 miles (7 km), though this may change to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. For younger participants, specific turn points at 3 km and 5 km are available to ensure compliance with distance regulations.
Facilities and Support
An aid station is located at the start and finish of each lap, offering a variety of sweet, savoury, fruit, cheese, and vegan food options alongside drinks. All finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal and a goody bag, with a specific vegan version available. Those completing a half marathon or longer are also eligible for distance-specific pins.
The venue, The Last Hop, provides access to toilets and space for changing, though there are no dedicated showers. A non-secure bag storage area is available at the start and finish point. Parking is located nearby at the Bridge Street Car Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
