Event Overview
The event is an annual Scare Bear Run with a spooky theme. Participants can run, walk, or use a wheelchair. The event has a 7-hour time challenge format, giving participants control over the distance they cover. The minimum distance to be an official finisher is 3km.
Distances and Format
Participants choose their distance within a 7-hour window. The course is based on laps. A full lap is approximately 4.37 miles (7km), but this is subject to change to a 3.28-mile loop. There are specific turn points within a lap for 3km and 5km distances to accommodate younger runners. Common distance milestones are:
- 3 laps for a half marathon
- 6 laps for a marathon
- 7 laps or more for an ultra marathon A 50km distance is also available. Entry is subject to UK Athletics age restrictions for each distance.
Course
The course runs along a stretch of the River Thames. It is fully signed, requiring no navigation. The surface is mainly well-made paths and tarmac, with a very short grass section. Road shoes are suitable year-round.
What's Included
All finishers who complete at least 3km receive a themed medal and a goody bag. A vegan goody bag option is available. Runners completing a half marathon or more receive a distance pin (Half-Marathon, Mega-Half, Marathon, 50km, or Ultra) on their medal ribbon. An aid station at the start/finish area offers a selection of savoury, sweet, fruit, cheese, and vegan items, plus drinks.
Venue and Logistics
The event is based at The Last Hop in Staines-upon-Thames. Toilets are available from 8am and throughout the event, but there are no separate changing facilities or showers. Parking is available at Bridge Street Car Park (TW18 4TP). Race numbers are collected on the day at registration. A bag drop area is provided at the start/finish, but it is not secure.
