Scare Bear Run 2026 - North
The Scare Bear Run is a timed trail event held at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on Sunday 11 October 2026. The event is a 7 hour Time Challenge that lets participants choose how many laps to complete; the minimum recorded distance for a finisher is 3 km.
The lap is described as 4.37 miles (7 km) but may change to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. The route runs along the River Wear with views of the Cathedral and is fully signed. A 3 km turn point and a 5 km turn point are provided on the lap to support compliance with UK Athletics age rules.
Distances available include:
- 3 km minimum finishing distance.
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
- Time Challenge flexible distance within seven hours
Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a Scare Bear themed medal. Distance pins are issued for half-marathon and longer distances and are attached to the medal ribbon. Finishers receive a goody bag with a vegan option if requested at entry. Aid and drink tables are available at the start and finish of each lap. Toilets and changing facilities are at race HQ. Bag drop is unstaffed and items are left at the participant's risk. Pay and display parking is available nearby; please do not park in the rowing club car park.
