Sandman Triathlon
The Sandman Triathlon is a multisport event held at Seacliff State Beach in Santa Cruz County. Established in 1985, this competition is sanctioned by USAT and serves as a fundraiser for local State Parks, lifeguard operations, and the Junior Lifeguard program. The funds generated support water safety education scholarships.
The event features a standard triathlon format and a duathlon option. The triathlon course consists of three distinct segments:
- 0.75 mile swim around the historic S.S. Palo Alto Cement Ship.
- 13 mile bike ride through the rolling hills of Aptos.
- 4 mile run along the beach to New Brighton Beach and back.
Participants can collect their race packets on the Saturday prior to the event at the New Leaf Community Market in Aptos or on the morning of the race at the venue. All participants are required to present a photo ID. The transition area is located at the beach.
Parking is available on-site at Seacliff State Beach for a fee that contributes to the maintenance of the park. Awards are presented at the conclusion of the race, and recipients must be present to collect them. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
