Sandman Tri
The Sandman Tri takes place in Aptos, California on 08/23/2026 and held its inaugural race in 1985. The event is USAT sanctioned and serves as a fundraiser for local State Parks, lifeguard operations, and the Junior Lifeguard program. Proceeds help fund scholarships for underprivileged children to receive water safety education.

Course notes describe a multi-discipline route along the Seacliff and New Brighton Beach area. The triathlon and team formats include a 0.75-mile swim around the S.S. Palo Alto Cement Ship, a 13-mile bike through the rolling hills of Aptos, and a 4-mile beach run to New Brighton Beach and back. The duathlon begins with a run into transition, followed by the same 13-mile bike and the 4-mile beach run back to the start area.
Registration opens 04/14/2026 and closes 06/01/2026. Posted registration fees are $140.00 for the Sandman Triathlon, $70.00 for the Sandman Duathlon, and $170.00 for the Sandman Team.
