About the race
The Sandhills Trail & Ultra Festival takes place at Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, SC, on a looped course that passes lakes, pine forests, sandy ridges, and campground areas. The course is mostly soft pine-needle singletrack with some paved sections around the lake and rolling hills. The route runs through campsite locations and returns to an open field used for the start/finish area and personal aid station access.
Distances offered include:
- 7.5 miles one lap of singletrack with lakeside views
- 25K two laps of the loop
- 50K four laps of the loop
- 30-hour timed ultra option
Chip timing with split tracking is used and finishers receive a medal. A fully stocked aid station is available at the start/finish every 7.5 miles; aid station snacks may include items such as pickles, cookies, pretzels, and soda. The event is cupless, so participants must carry their own hydration gear. Limited overnight crew support is provided during overnight hours for the 30-hour event. Camping and day-use facilities are available at the park; the course passes through campground loops and there are restrooms by the start/finish and along the campground loop.
Practical details from the event: packet pickup and gear drop are at Picnic Shelter #2, parking is in an open field adjacent to the start/finish, dogs are allowed on course, headphones are permitted, race-day registration is available, and a $5 special use permit fee covers park entry during registration. Awards include trophies for the top three overall male and female finishers and age-group medals for 1st–3rd in listed age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
