Salt Springs Field, Forest & Falls Trail Races
The Salt Springs Field, Forest & Falls Trail Races take place in Salt Springs Park, located in Montrose, Pennsylvania. Now in its 14th year, the event features technical trails through old-growth forests, fields, and streams. The terrain consists of a mixture of single-track and double-track paths with steep climbs and descents. All distances are chip-timed.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 5K: A course consisting almost entirely of trails.
- 10K: A route featuring three steep climbs, technical descents, and a flat section through the Wetlands trail.
- 50K: Five loops of the 10K course, totaling over 7,000 feet of elevation gain.
The 50K distance is described as a non-beginner-friendly course with strict cutoffs. Runners in this category must start their final lap by 4:00 pm and finish the entire course by 6:30 pm. A fully stocked aid station is located at the start of each loop, roughly every 6.5 miles. While trekking poles are permitted, pacers are not allowed on the course.
The event benefits the Friends of Salt Springs Park, a volunteer organization responsible for the maintenance and conservation of the park trails. After the races, food and beverages are provided for participants. Race shirts are available for those who register by the specified deadline in mid-August.
