Aonach Mor Uphill (New Year) : Nevis Range Ski Centre
Aonach Mor Uphill is an uphill running event held on New Year’s Day at Nevis Range Ski Centre, Torlundy, Fort William. The course runs from the Nevis Range car park to the top gondola station, covering a distance of 3 km with a climb of 610 m.
The event is organised by Lochaber AC and is limited to 150 entries. Entry uses a pre-selection process: entrants join a pre-entry list and, if offered a place, must accept and pay within seven days. There is no on-the-day entry. The minimum age is 18 on the event date and the entry fee is £15.00.
To promote diversity, 50 per cent of race places will be allocated to women and non binary runners. Runners and marshals receive refreshments at the Snowgoose Cafe after the race, comprising a soup and roll plus tea or coffee; numbers must be shown to collect these.
Full body cover must be carried or worn; kit will be checked at registration and at the finish. Required items include a waterproof jacket with a hood and taped seams, waterproof overtrousers with taped seams, a warm hat or buff, and gloves or mitts.
Facilities and logistics notes: toilets are available at both start and finish; runners may send a bag up the gondola for the finish and prize giving; if the gondola is not running the route will be altered to go to Tower 13 and back with presentations at the Pinemartin Café at the bottom station.
