About the race
The Salado VFW Auxiliary 12235 Turkey Trot Fun Run is a community 5K run and walk held on November 21, 2026 at Liberty Park in Belton, Texas. The course begins at the Western Pavilion and follows the Nolan Creek Hike and Bike Trails. This is the event's first annual Turkey Trot and it is presented to support veterans and active duty members, their families, and the local community. The event promotes youth involvement; local students volunteer in multiple roles and a T shirt design contest will place the winning original design on the front of the race T shirt.
T shirts are guaranteed for registrations received by October 30, 2026. T shirts and race materials will be available for pick up on November 14 at locations to be announced, and race packets will also be available for pick up on race day at the Western Pavilion. Registration fee structure is tiered: early bird period 1 September to 4 October $35, 5 October to 20 November $40, and a higher fee for registrations on race day. Race day registration materials and raffle tickets will be available at the event.
A canned food drive will benefit Heart & Hands Ministries; entrants receive one free raffle ticket for every two canned goods donated. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in age categories and to the top three in the Human K-9 team category. All proceeds benefit the Salado VFW Auxiliary and VFW Post 12235 to fund their community and veteran support programs. Competing human/K-9 teams must run or walk with the dog leashed; use of a pet stroller or carrier will disqualify a competing team.
