Sail Away 5K
The Sail Away 5K is a combined boat cruise and running event in Buffalo, NY on June 15, 2026. Participants can choose to take a boat ride to the start area on the Outer Harbor, run the 5K along the bike path on Fuhrmann Blvd, and return to the Buffalo Boat Tours dock on a post-race sunset cruise where the awards ceremony is held.
Three participation options are offered: Sail and Run, Park and Run, and Sail Only. The Sail and Run and Sail Only options include a drink ticket good for one draft beer or soda on the boat; a cash bar is available on board. The boat carries up to 130 persons under US Coast Guard regulations.
Packet pickup and race packet distribution are organized at the Buffalo Boat Tours location for cruise participants and at Charlie's Boat Yard at the Outer Harbor for those who go directly to the start. Professional timing and finish line services use Jaguar Electronic RFID timing provided by Race Management Solutions.
A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to Hope Chest Buffalo to benefit breast cancer survivors and a portion will go to a local cat rescue. Prizes are presented to the first place overall male and female finishers and to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Age groups run from 14 and under up to 80 plus.
