You Are Not Alone Suicide Prevention Run and Mental Health Fair
This event is a community run, walk or skate and an accompanying mental health fair presented by The Ryan Bowers Foundation in Ocean Beach, San Diego. The course follows local streets from Newport and Bacon east toward Sunset Cliffs, continues along Sunset Cliffs to the overlook, then returns to Newport for a total distance of 4.5 miles with several hills on the Sunset Cliffs section.
The Mental Health Fair is held in the Hodad’s parking lot at Newport Avenue and Abbott Street and is free to the public. The fair features resource booths, local vendors and live music, and includes representatives from local mental health and community organizations such as The Belonging Lab, county behavioral health services, Telecare Mobile Crisis Response Team, NAMI San Diego, and several youth and community service groups.
The event’s stated purpose is to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, to provide information and resources, and to show support for people affected by trauma, suicide loss, overdose, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. It also notes involvement from local sponsors and community partners and frames the activity as a public community effort to highlight available resources and reduce stigma.
