RVA Sprint Triathlon
The RVA Sprint Triathlon is a pool sprint triathlon hosted at the Rockville Center in Rockville, VA. The event features a pool swim, rolling rural bike sections, and an out-and-back run course. Races are offered for adults, youth, and first-time triathletes, and there are both multisport and single-discipline options.
Distances include:
- Sprint triathlon: 300 yd pool swim, 20k bike, 5k run
- Beginner-only triathlon: 150 yd pool swim, 6 mi bike, 1.5 mi run
- Kid’s Splash & Dash: 100 yd pool swim, 1 mi run
Duathlon and aquabike options are available; in the duathlon the swim is replaced with a 0.75 mile run. The event uses a seeded race start for the top 12 seeded women and top 12 seeded men, with the women starting several minutes ahead of the men; the first person across the finish line receives a free entry to a future Live Red Foundation race.
The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and USAT membership is required for participants. Every finisher receives a finisher’s medal. Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall in the triathlon, duathlon, and aquabike, and by age group for the triathlon and the Splash & Dash.
The race supports the Live Red Foundation; proceeds fund free fitness programs that teach life skills to children in low-opportunity communities. The venue address is 16238 Pouncey Tract Rd, Rockville, VA 23146. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
