Running With the Rapids

The Niagara Falls Police Department organizes this annual event in memory of Tina Zell. The race takes place in downtown Niagara Falls, New York, with the start and finish lines located on the NY State Park Trail near the Great Lakes 360 Visitors Center.

The event features three primary distances:

  • 10K Run
  • 5K Run
  • 1 Mile Fun Walk

The running courses are designed as out-and-back routes along the Niagara Falls State Park Pedestrian Path. Participants follow the trail alongside the river, providing views of the rapids and surrounding park scenery throughout the route. Professional timing services are provided for the running events using RFID technology, with results available immediately via mobile applications and on-site kiosks.

Registration and packet pickup are held on the morning of the event at The Archives Pub, situated within a short walking distance of the starting line. Those who register by a specific early deadline are guaranteed an event t-shirt. Following the races, a post-race celebration and awards ceremony occur at the pub, offering light refreshments and snacks. Trophies are awarded to the overall first-place male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K, with additional recognition for various age groups ranging from 14 and under to 70 and older.

Proceeds from the registration fees are donated to the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara. A virtual option is also available for those who wish to complete their chosen distance independently during the month of August. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
